Huntingdale railway station

Huntingdale is a railway station in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, located in the suburb of Huntingdale, on the Pakenham and Cranbourne railway lines. Huntingdale is classed as a Host Station and is in Metcard Zones 1+2.

Huntingdale is located between Haughton Road and Railway Avenue, with station access from both via the station's underpass located at the Dandenong end of the station.

The station consists of two platforms, in an island format, with a large brick building at the Dandenong end of the station. A large Metcard ticket vending machine is located at the entrance to the platforms, which is able to dispense most ticketing options available. Additional coin-only Metcard and myki ticket vending machines, as well as a ticket office are also located at the entrance.

History

Huntingdale station opened on 25 June 1927 as Eastoakleigh, and was renamed Huntingdale in 1954.^[1] The station is a possible junction for a future Rowville railway or light rail line.

In 2005, the state government spent $2 million on an additional 120 car spaces at Huntingdale station. However, according to the City of Monash, the people using the extra spaces built at the station don't even come from the local area, but are instead driving in from further out to take advantage of cheaper Zone 1 fares. (Melbourne's public transport prices are such that those travelling in inner suburbs pay different prices to those travelling in the outer suburbs)
